Skiing in the age of hair
In 1960 Jack Albright convinced Jim Demetre to make sweaters to match the ski pants he was selling.
The idea was a hit and Demetre Ski Sweaters was born. It became fashionable to wear a sweater on the slopes in spring and some even had a wind-proof liner sewn inside to make a crazy idea comfortable.
This ad from 1973 promotes the finest designs of the day. Demetre Sweaters survives as the Standard Knitting Company in Seattle, Washington. The quality lives on, fortunately the hair styles have passed on.
Bonus Tidbit: Jack Albright was an accomplished pilot. He made headlines in a famous incident where he saved a woman’s life by flying alongside her plane and coaching her in flying and landing the aircraft after her husband had suffered a stroke.
